Tuşi: Cüçi’nin Adı Üzerine

Abstract

1169 senesi doğumlu Cüçi, doğumunun nasıl olduğu konusunda akıllarda şüphe bırakan en önemli tarihi karakterlerden biridir. Cüçi, Cengiz Han’ın dört oğlu arasında en büyüğüdür. Annesi Börte, Merkitler tarafından kaçırıldıktan sonra Cengiz Han tarafından kurtarıldığında hamile olduğu için Cuci’nin kimin oğlu olduğu konusunda çeşitli şaibeler vardır. Cüçi en bilinen anlamıyla “beklenmedik misafir” demektir. İşte bu makale, Cüçi Han’ın isminin anlamı ve çeşitli formları hakkında bilgi vermekte ayrıca onun tarihi kişiliği, hayatı ve babası Cengiz Han ile olan ilişkileri hakkında da bilgiler içermektedir. Prof. Peter B. Golden, Cüçi isminin ne anlama geldiği ve yazılış formlarının nasıl olduğunu incelediği bu makalesini İngilizce olarak hazırlarken Fransızca, Almanca gibi Batı dillerinin yanı sıra Rusça, Gürcüce, Arapça, Türkçe gibi çeşitli dillerden kaynak eserler kullanarak hazırlamıştır. Kullandığı kaynaklar arasında zaman zaman karşılaştırmalar yapmış ve kendi yorumlarını da eklemiştir. Biz bu çeviriyi yaparken, aslına bağlı kalmaya özen gösterdik. İngilizce’den Türkçe’ye çevirdiğimiz bu makalenin bu alanı çalışan araştırmacılar için yardımcı olacağını ümit ediyoruz.

Tuši: The Turkic Name of Jočî

Abstract

Jočî, who was one of the most important figures of Mongolian history and the eldest son among the four sons of Genghis Khan, was born in 1169. Accounts on his ancestral lines are still contested by different scholars. Börte, Jočî’s mother was kidnapped by Merkits and when she was rescued by Genghis Khan, she had been pregnant. Therefore, it is still unknown who was the biological father of Jočî. The name ‘Jočî’ simply means “unexpected guest”. This article examines the meaning and variant forms of the name ‘Jočî’ from the perspectives of different sources. This article also provides valuable information about the life and personality of Jočî, as well as his relationship and interaction with Genghis Khan. Professor Peter B. Golden wrote this article in English to explain what Jočî means and its varied orthography and used sources in French, German, Russian, Georgian, Arabic and Turkish. He successfully compared different sources and included his own comments on the topic. Close attention was paid to stick to the original article while translating from English to Turkish. We hope that this translation of the article will be helpful for the researchers who focus on this field of history.
