Step-by-Step Argument Map in Learning Environment: Example of Optic

Abstract

The argument is defined as the whole of contentions that are related to each in other in terms of interference. The argument map serves to visually present the arguments with an inferential structure using graphical techniques. Argument maps help individuals visualize and evaluate the process of reasoning. In learning environments, argument mapping helps in higher level thinking and establishing connections between information. The purpose of the study is to enable science teacher candidates to create individual and interactive argument maps by using RationaleTM program in the subject of lenses. The argument mapping process was carried out via the online software “RationaleTM”. The argument maps of “Lenses” sub-section of “Optics” subjects are examined at the higher education level with the software. In addition, discussions on how to use argument mapping in the learning environment and related argument maps are presented.
