The Natural Environment as a Potential Benefit to be Distributed

Abstract

The environment is a common denominator of both social justice, environmental justice and sustainability. However, this common denominator is addressed differently by each of them. While the environmental movement generally aims to protect and sustain the natural environment, social justice is concerned with how it is distributed. Distributive justice theorists, who use a language quite different from the language used by environmentalists, see environmental problems as an optional extra in the theory of justice. In this context, the article aims to show how the natural environment can be included in a social justice theory through the thoughts of liberal thinker David Miller, who argues that environmental goods cannot be excluded from the scope of justice theories.

Dağıtılacak Potansiyel Bir Fayda Olarak Doğal Çevre

Abstract

Çevre hem sosyal adaletin hem de çevresel adalet ve sürdürülebilirliğin ortak bir paydası durumundadır. Ancak bu ortak payda her biri tarafından farklı bir biçimde ele alınmaktadır. Genel olarak çevre hareketi doğal çevrenin korunmasını ve sürdürülmesini amaçlarken, sosyal adalet bunun nasıl dağıtıldığı ile ilgilenmektedir. Çevrecilerin kullandıkları dilden oldukça farklı bir dil kullanan dağıtıcı adalet teorisyenleri, çevresel sorunları adalet teorisinde isteğe bağlı olarak ele alınması gereken bir ekstra olarak görmektedirler. Bu kapsamda makale, çevresel malların adalet teorilerinin kapsamı dışında bırakılamayacağını savunan liberal düşünür David Miller'ın düşünceleri üzerinden, doğal çevrenin bir sosyal adalet teorisine nasıl dahil edilebileceğini göstermeyi amaçlamaktadır.
