Natural Dyeing of Wool with Traditional Methods Using Peanut Seed Shell

Abstract

Peanut that is leguminous plant is grown in most Osmaniye and Adana in Turkey. It is the most important agricultural product of Osmaniye due to trade and industrial contribution. Most of the produced ground peanuts are consumed as snacks, but they are also used in the food industry as additives in peanut oil, peanut butter, confectionery and desserts. In this study, the usability of Anthocyanin (Cyanidin) dyestuff found in peanut seed shell in natural dyeing was investigated. In this context, raw and dried peanut skins were supplied firstly, then the skins were cleaned, ground and extracted. As the first stage of dyeing, wool hank yarns were dyed with traditional techniques in Karatepe Kilim Cooperative and it was used mordant (şap) for dyeing. The color analyzes were made for the dyed samples in the spectrophotometer and the results were evaluated. The fastness tests were performed in order to determine the color resistance of rubbing, washing and light to dyed hanks. As a result of natural dyeing, brown and shades of colors were obtained from peanut shell. According to fastness tests, the values are above acceptable values. As a result, it has been revealed in our project that peanut skins can be used easily in textile finishing and especially in natural dyeing.

Yer Fıstığı Tohum Kabuğu Kullanarak Geleneksel Yöntemlerle Yünün Doğal Boyanması

Abstract

Baklagiller familyasından olan yer fıstığı Türkiye’de en çok Osmaniye ve Adana illerinde yetiştirilmekte ve tarımsal üretimin yanında ticaret ve sanayiye katkısı açısından Osmaniye’nin en önemli tarım ürünü konumundadır. Üretilen yer fıstığının büyük bölümü kuruyemiş olarak çerez olarak tüketilse de özellikle fıstık yağı, fıstık ezmesi, şekerleme ve tatlıcılıkta katkı maddesi olarak gıda sanayisinde kullanılmaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında, yer fıstığının tohum kabuğunda bulunduğu tespit edilen Antosiyanin (Siyanidin) boyarmaddesinin doğal boyamacılıkta kullanılabilirliği araştırılmıştır. Bu kapsamda ilk önce kam ve kavrulmuş fıstık kabukları tedarik edilmiş, daha sonra kabuklar temizlenmiş, öğütülmüş ve ekstrakte edilmiştir. Elde edilen boyarmadde ile Karatepe Kilim Kooperatifi’nde yün çile ipliklerin doğal boyaması şap mordanı kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Boyanmış numunelerin spektrofotometrik renk değerleri tespit edilmiştir. Boyalı kumaşlara sürtünme, yıkama ve ışığa karşı renk dayanımlarını tespit edebilmek için haslık testleri yapılmış ve sonuçlar değerlendirilmiştir. Doğal boyamalar sonucunda, fıstık kabuğundan genel itibariyle kahverengi tonlarında renkler elde edilmiş, haslık testleri sonucunda da kullanım açısından kabul edilebilir sınırların üzerindeki değerlere ulaşılmıştır. Sonuç olarak fıstık iç kabuğunun tekstil terbiyesinde ve özellikle doğal boyamacılık alanında rahatlıkla kullanılabileceği ortaya konulmuştur.
