Elit Basketbolcularda Akdeniz Diyeti Uyum Ölçeği ile Uyku Kalitesi Arasındaki İlişkinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Türkiye’de 1. ve 2. ligde profesyonel basketbol sporu ile uğraşan 18 yaş ve üzeri basketbolcunun beslenme alışkanlıklarını belirlemek; beslenme kalitesi ve uyku kalitesi arasındaki ilişkiyi cinsiyetlere göre değerlendirmek amacıyla planlanmıştır. Çalışmaya Türkiye genelinde gönüllü olan 174 basketbolcu (97 kadın, 77 erkek) katılmıştır. Çalışma çevrimiçi ve yüz yüze görüşme tekniği ile uygulanmıştır. Anket formu demografik veriler, antropometrik ölçümler (vücut ağırlığı (VA), boy uzunluğu, beden kütle indeksi (BKİ)), beslenme durumu ve alışkanlıkları ile ilgili veriler, 14 Maddeli Akdeniz Diyeti Uyum Ölçeği (MEDAS) ve Sporcu Uyku Davranış Ölçeği’ni (SUDA) kapsamaktadır. Çalışmada veriler SPSS 25 paket programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Basketbolcularda MEDAS ortalama puanları erkeklerde 8,45±2,27; kadınlarda ise 7,52±2,88 olarak saptanmış ve aradaki fark anlamlı bulunmuştur (p=0,019). Bu diyet modeline göre basketbolcular diyete orta düzeyde uyum sağlamışlardır. SUDA ortalama puanları erkeklerde 38,48±7,61; kadınlarda ise 40,76±8,28 olarak saptanmış, sırasıyla orta ve kötü düzeyde uyku kalitesine sahip oldukları tespit edilmiş ve aradaki fark anlamlı bulunmamıştır. Hem erkek hem kadın basketbolcularda MEDAS ile SUDA ortalama değerleri arasında fark tespit edilememiştir (p>0,05). Çalışmada özellikle kadın basketbolcuların erkek basketbolculara kıyasla Akdeniz diyetine uyumlarının ve uyku kalitelerinin daha kötü düzeyde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Akdeniz diyet modeli sonucunda elde edilen toplam puanlara göre; basketbolcularda her iki cinsiyette de besin alımlarının düzeltilmesi gerektiği kanısına varılmıştır. Sporcularda Akdeniz diyeti ile uyku durumları arasında ilişkiyi değerlendirecek daha fazla çalışmaya ihtiyaç bulunmaktadır.

Investigation of the Relationship Between Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener and Sleep Quality Status in Elite Basketball Players

Abstract

This study was conducted in Turkey aged 18 years and over who were engaged in basketball sports to determine dietary habits; the relationship between nutritional quality and sleep quality to evaluate the results according to gender. 174 basketball players (97 women, 77 men) volunteered throughout Turkey participated in the study. The study was conducted using online and face-to-face interviews. The questionnaire included demographic data, anthropometric measurements (body weight, height, body mass index (BMI)), data on nutritional status and habits, 14-point Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS) and Athlete Sleep Behavior Questionnaire (SUDA). The data were analyzed with SPSS 25 package program. The mean MEDAS scores were found to be 8.45±2.27 in men, 7.52±2.88 in women and the difference was found to be significant (p = 0.019). Also it was found that the basketball players were moderately compliant with this dietary model. SUDA mean value were 38.48±7.61 in men, 40.76±8.28 in women and basketball players were found to have moderate and poor sleep quality, respectively. Male and female difference between basketball players in terms of MEDAS and SUDA mean values was not found. In the study, it was determined that especially female basketball players' compliance with MEDAS and SUDA were worse than men. According to the total scores obtained as a result of the Mediterranean diet model; It was concluded that nutritional intake of basketball players in both genders should be corrected. More studies are needed to evaluate the relationship between the Mediterranean diet and sleep status in athletes.
