In this research, the main aim is to analyze the initial reading and writing processes of the 1st grade students who start primary school by having already learned how to write and read in preschool period and to examine which problems the students have in this process by receiving the opinions of teachers and parents in the regions of low socio-economic status. The qualitative research method is used in this paper. As a data collection tool, we have made use of semi-structured interview form and face to face interview. The working group of the research consists of parents and classroom teachers who work in the primary schools in the low socio-economic areas of Şahinbey District in Gaziantep Province in 2017-2018 educational year. With this purpose, the working group is created by choosing 12 teachers and 16 parents from three different primary schools in Şahinbey District. According to the results obtained during the research, the students, who start primary school by having already known how to read and write from the preschool period, have learned to read and write mostly with the help of tools such as computers, tablets etc. and also their parents. Most of these students have acquired writing skill besides reading. The obtained data shows that on the one hand the students, learning how to read and write in preschool period and starting primary school with this knowledge, have a remarkable self- confidence; but on the other hand, they get bored during the lesson.
