Undergraduate Students’ Needs Regarding Services Provided at University

Abstract



The purposes of this study were to assess undergraduate
students’ needs regarding services at 
university and examine to what extend
student needs change with respect to gender and class level. In addition, study
obtained students’ opinions regarding time, format and announcement of the
activities that fulfill their needs. Out of 16800 undergraduate students, 5000 were
chosen by stratified random sampling from a large state university in Ankara. Participants
completed online “Student Needs Assessment Survey”. The total of 1276 students completed
the survey with no missing data. Data were analyzed by using descriptive
statistics and Multivariate Analysis of Variance. The result showed that, students
expressed higher concern for career needs. The career, university life, and
emotional needs differed with respect to gender; whereas academic, university
life, and study skills needs differed with respect to grade level. Other
findings were as follows; participants mostly preferred activities to be held
at the beginning of the semester, between 15:30-17:30 PM time period.
Announcement of the activities through e-mail was the announcement type and
demonstration was the format most preferred by students.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Üniversitede Sunulabilecek Hizmetlere Yönelik İhtiyaçları

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın
amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin üniversitede sunulabilecek hizmetlere yönelik ihtiyaçlarını
belirlemek ve bu ihtiyaçları cinsiyet ile sınıf düzeyi değişkenlerine göre incelemektir.
Bu çalışmada ayrıca öğrencilerin ihtiyaçlarına yönelik olarak düzenlenen etkinliklerinin
sunumuna, saatine ve duyurulma şekline yönelik tercihleri de araştırılmıştır. Araştırma
kapsamında, Ankara’daki bir devlet üniversitesinin farklı bölümlerinde okuyan 16800
lisans öğrencisi arasından, tabakalı seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilen 5000
lisans öğrencisine ‘Öğrenci İhtiyaçları Anketi’ çevrim içi olarak uygulanmıştır.
Anketi, 1276 öğrenci eksiksiz olarak yanıtlamıştır. Elde edilen verilere,
betimsel istatistik analizi ve çok yönlü varyans analizi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular,
öğrencilerin en çok mesleki konularda desteğe ihtiyaç duyduklarını
göstermiştir. Mesleki, duygusal ve üniversite yaşamıyla ilgili ihtiyaçların cinsiyete
göre; akademik, üniversite yaşamı ve çalışma becerileriyle ilgili ihtiyaçların da
sınıf düzeyine göre farklılık göstermesi elde edilen diğer bulgulardır. Sonuçlar
ayrıca, öğrencilerin etkinliklerinin öncelikli olarak akademik dönemin başında,
zaman aralığı olarak 15:30-17:00 saatleri arasında ve gösterim formatında olmasını
tercih etiklerini göstermiştir. Etkinliklerin e-postayla duyurulması ise,
öğrencilerin en çok tercih ettikleri duyuru şekli olmuştur.
