A CONCEPTUAL EVALUATION OF THE TOUR GUIDES’ ROLES IN THE WORKING LIFE
Abstract
A person who guides visitors in the language of their choice and interprets the cultural and natural heritage of an area which person normally possesses an area-specific qualification usually issued and/or recognised by the appropriate authority. Tour guides have an important and multifaceted role in tourism industry. The role is defined as the expected behavior from the person who is in a specific location or is assigned with a specific function. Tour guides are role model persons who show the way to the visitors in a local region where the visitors never know and experience before. Therefore it is very important to examine and define the roles of the tour guides in their working life for the sustainable tour guiding. In this study it is aimed to examine the roles which the tour guides have undertaken / have to undertake in their working life. To reach the information that provides answers to the aims of the study, national and international literature have been reviewed about the study and a conceptual framework has been established. At the end of the examination it has been determined that the guides roles have been made more emphasis on the role of resource management and leadership in the nature based tourism activities and the role of cultural mediation and interpreter.

TURİST REHBERLERİNİN İŞ YAŞAMINDAKİ ROLLERİ ÜZERİNE KAVRAMSAL BİR DEĞERLENDİRME
Abstract
Turist rehberleri; turistlere seçtikleri dilde liderlik yapan, bulunduğu bölgenin kültürel ve doğal miraslarını onlara tercüme eden ve bulunduğu bölgenin uygun bir yönetimi tarafından kabul edilmiş donanımına sahip kişilerdir. Turist rehberlerinin iş yaşamında önemli ve çok yönlü pek çok rolü bulunmaktadır. Rol, belirli bir konumda yer alan ya da belirli bir fonksiyonla görevlendirilen kişiden beklenen davranıştır. Rehberler, ziyaretçilerin daha önce hiç bilmediği, deneyim yaşamadığı bölgelerde ve çevrede yol gösteren, onlara öncülük eden ve örnek olan kişilerdir. Buna göre; turist rehberlerinin iş yaşamındaki rollerinin incelenmesi, ortaya konulması ve anlaşılması sürdürülebilir turist rehberliği mesleği açısından önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada; turist rehberlerinin iş yaşamlarında üstlendiği/üstlenmesi gerekli olduğu rollerin incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacına yanıt vermeyi sağlayacak bilgilere ulaşmak için konuyla ilgili yerli ve yabancı alan yazın taraması yapılmış ve kavramsal bir çerçeve oluşturulmuştur. Yapılan inceleme sonucunda en fazla doğaya yönelik turizm faaliyetleri içerisinde rehberlerin kaynak yöneticiliği rolüne, liderlik rolüne, bununla birlikte rehberlerin kültürel arabuluculuk rolüne ve yorumcu rolüne vurgu yapıldığı belirlenmiştir.
