STUDENTS’ VIEW OF LOCAL PEOPLE AND ATTITUDES ABOUT THE REGION: A CASE OF HARMANCIK VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

Abstract

The primary objective of the study is to determine the attitude of students who study at Uludag University,Harmancık Vocational School, towards local communities, homeowners and tradesman. Then, it is intendedto analyse the opportunities of students in the area they live, transportation, food, clothing and social lifepossibilities. Secondary objective of this study is to determine students' views and awareness about availablesources of Harmancık district, its social, environmental, economic and cultural impact and necessary stepsto be taken to the town's development issues. Research in general, while including the problems of thestudents in these vocational schools, also intended to be informative and guidance regarding the contentand quality of existing problems. As a result, the spatial and social deficiencies, leisure forms in Harmancıkdistrict, relationships between students and Harmancık local people and students' general expectationswere tried to be questioned and solutions have been introduced. According to the general findings of theresearch; although the majority of the students look on Harmancık people as helpful, they think that thepeople are uneducated and Harmancık is a cheap place. Also, the majority of students state that cinema,theatre and concert events are not arranged in Harmancık and they were dissatisfied with this situation.
