TURKISH IMAGE IN GERMANS BEFORE AND AFTER WORLD WAR I

Abstract

In this study through the subfield of image of the comparative literary studies, altering and stable images of Turkish people for Germans (Austria and Prussia- Germany) before and after the World War I will be elucidated. Before the World War I the general idea about Turkish people is that Turks are barbar, savage, infidel and lustful, not based on any systematic idea. On the eve and during the World War I, these images were transformed into positive through the political compulsions and interpretations in the aim of political propaganda. Through political declarations of German palace and cabinet, press, trip-memoir publications and postcards, this positive Turkish image is started to be conveyed to the public. During the war, to recognize the Turks and Turkish soldiers closely; new, natural and positive images are produced. When the war started to be lost and in the post war period, Turkish image was turned into to the old days with much negative conception that had been dominant before the war.

BİRİNCİ DÜNYA SAVAŞI ÖNCESİ VE SONRASINDA ALMANLARDA TÜRK İMGESİ

Abstract

Bu çalışmada karşılaştırmalı edebiyat yönteminin imge alt dalıyla Almanların (Avusturya ve Prusya-Almanya) Birinci Dünya Savaşı öncesi ve sonrası Türkler hakkında değişen ve sabit kalan imgeleri ortaya konulacaktır. Almanlarda Birinci Dünya Savaşı öncesi Türkler için düşman, barbar, vahşi, inançsız, şehvetperest, düşün sistematiği olmayan gibi imgeler hâkimdir. Savaş arifesinde ve esnasında (1879-1918) bu imgeler tamamen siyasi zorlama yorumlar ve propaganda amacıyla üstten gelen bir dayatmayla olumluya dönüştürülür. Alman saray ve hükûmet çevrelerinin siyasi açıklamaları, basın, gezi-anı yayınları ve kartpostallar vs. ile bu olumlu Türk imgesi halka sirayet ettirilmeye başlanır. Savaş esnasında Türkler ve Türk askeri yakından tanınarak tecrübe ile yeni doğal olumlu imgeler de ortaya konur. Savaş kaybedilmeye başlanınca ve sonrasında tekrar savaş öncesi çoğu olumsuz Türk imgesine geri dönülür.
