Magnetic shunting
is an efficient way to reduce stray losses in transformer tank walls. Due to
the vertical placement of these shunts inside the tank walls are greatly reduce
these losses, this method are widely used by transformer manufacturers. In this
study, authors are focused on horizontal shunting method and optimal dimensions
and locations of these shunts are investigated. A 1250kVA high efficient
distribution transformer is studied. First, stray losses on tank walls were
calculated by simulations and obtained results were verified by measurements.
Then, a number of analyses were conducted parametrically to obtain the optimal
position and dimensions of the horizontal shunts. Analysis results show that,
considering the other important issues such as cooling efficiency of tank
walls, stray losses on tank walls are reduced by 80%.
