AI Usage Policy of PRESS

Level of Permitted Use

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing processes is permitted, provided that it is limited and controlled. AI tools may be used solely as supportive instruments and must not replace scientific production.

Purpose and Scope of Use

AI tools may be used for the following purposes:

  • Language editing and proofreading
  • Enhancing text readability
  • Supporting literature review processes
  • Data presentation and visualization

However, the following uses are strictly prohibited:

  • Generating research questions, hypotheses, or original scientific contributions
  • Writing the entire manuscript or a substantial portion of it using AI

The use of AI tools in data analysis may be considered supportive of scientific research practices. While these tools can be effective in analyzing complex datasets, the interpretation of findings and scientific meaning-making must remain under the responsibility of the human researcher.

Ethical Principles

The use of AI must adhere to the following ethical principles:

  • Accuracy and reliability
  • Transparency
  • Scientific integrity
  • Human oversight

Errors, misleading content, or fabricated references generated by AI will be considered ethical violations.

Copyright and Legal Considerations

  • The copyright status of AI-generated content must be taken into account, and third-party rights must not be violated.
  • Copyrighted materials (text, data, images, etc.) must not be uploaded to AI systems.
  • Personal and sensitive data must not be processed using AI tools.
  • AI-generated images must be clearly identified, and their ethical and legal compliance must be ensured.

Transparency and Disclosure Requirements

The use of AI must be clearly disclosed, including:

  • The name and version of the tool used
  • The purpose of use
  • The scope of use
  • The sections where AI was used must be indicated in blue

This disclosure should be included in the manuscript under a section titled “AI Usage Statement” or within the methods/acknowledgements section.

Authorship and Responsibility

  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors under any circumstances.
  • All scientific, ethical, and legal responsibility lies with the authors.
  • Authors must verify the accuracy and appropriateness of any AI-generated content.

Prohibited Uses

The following uses are strictly prohibited:

  • Fabrication of data, references, or analyses
  • Creating false or misleading content using AI
  • Delegating academic responsibility to AI
  • Uploading confidential or sensitive data to AI systems

Use by Reviewers and Editors

  • Editors may use AI tools only for preliminary assessment of whether submissions meet the journal’s minimum standards, and only through secure and institutionally approved systems in compliance with data protection and confidentiality principles. The scope and purpose of such use must be documented and be subject to audit when necessary.
  • Reviewers must not upload manuscripts or data to AI systems.
  • AI tools may be used only for limited technical purposes (e.g., language checking).
  • Editorial and review decisions must be based entirely on human judgment.
  • Suspected misuse of AI must be reported to the editors.

Violations and Sanctions

Violations of AI usage policies may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript
  • Post-publication retraction
  • Editorial sanctions
  • Institutional notification

Where necessary, authors may be required to provide evidence of AI use (e.g., prompts, data, or outputs).
