An Ethnomethodology – Translation Oriented Analysis on Two Same/Seperate Autobiographical Works in Two Seperate Languages
Abstract
This article aims to describe in which different subjects the author express herself or how
the author is perceived in different ways by the reader, how the work has been re-built/interpreted
in the translation process and the translator’s decision by making interdisciplinary
research on autobiographies of Halide Adıvar Edib’s Mor Salkımlı Ev (2011), Memoirs
of Halide Edip (1926) and Türkün Ateşle İmtihanı (2011), The Turkish Ordeal (1928) in
English and Turkish. In the study, it will be examined in the frame of methods of ethnomethodology
which organizes this process/everyday life scientifically by evaluating all individuals
one by one but within a holistic view at a research area and on translation studies
bases with the theory of Vermeer, in which he tells about the independence, responsibility
and cultural duty of translators. Mentioned autobiographies of Halide Edib Adıvar will be
used as ethnomethodological materials.
