Tip 2 diyabetes mellitus tanılı bireylerde egzersiz alışkanlıkları ve diyabet öz yeterliliği

Year 2022, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, - , 01.06.2022

Abstract

Exercise habits and diabetes self-efficacy in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Year 2022, Volume: 9 Issue: 2, - , 01.06.2022

Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the exercise habits and diabetes self-efficacy of individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
Materials and Methods: The research was conducted in descriptive and cross-sectional type. The sample of the study consisted of 793 people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Data were collected with data collection form and Diabetes Self-Efficacy Scale.
Results: The majority of individuals diagnosed with Type 2 DM with a mean age of 58.95 ± 11.40 years and duration of diagnosis of diabetes 9.73 ± 7.71 years are female, have a primary education level, and are obese. The rate of individuals who have not received any education on diabetes is 80.3%. Trainees often received training from diabetes nurses (69.9%), and it was reported that 65.4% had a change in their daily life at the end of the training. The individuals of 77.6% do not know the relationship between exercise and diabetes, 83.1% do not know the relationship between exercise and nutrition, 55.4% do not know the relationship between exercise and weight control. The percentage of individuals who prefer walking as an exercise type is 88.9%. There is a statistically significant difference between the individuals' age, gender, years of diagnosis of diabetes, receiving diabetes education, changes in their daily life at the end of the education, walking and vehicle preference in daily life, and Diabetes Self-Efficacy Scale total scores (p<0.05). Repetitive diabetes education and receiving from nurses increase diabetes self-efficacy scores.
Conclusion: Advanced age, female gender, duration of disease diagnosis are important in diabetes self-efficacy, and diabetes self-efficacy is low in these groups. It seems that individuals with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus do not know the relationship between exercise and diabetes, exercise and nutrition.
