Abstract
This study aims to find out the perception of school principals towards the term “school
management” with the help of metaphors. The study group consists of 43 school principals working
in various types and levels of schools in Beykoz, Istanbul in 2020-2021 academic year. Research
data was gathered with the help of an online form that sent to school principals. In the form, school
principals are required to complete the expression “School management is like …, because …”. This
study adopts case study method which is one of the qualitative research methods. Answers from
the school principals were gathered under seven themes by splitting the answers into three groups
as positive, negative, and neutral. The study results show that metaphors generated by school
principals concentrate on negative group.

Abstract
Bu çalışma okul yöneticilerinin “okul yöneticiliği” kavramına yönelik algılarını metaforlar yardımıyla ortaya çıkarmak üzere gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma grubunu 2020-2021 eğitimöğretim
yılında İstanbul ili Beykoz ilçesinde çeşitli tür ve kademeki okullarda görev yapan 43 okul yöneticisi oluşturmuştur. Araştıma verileri okul yöneticilerine çevrim içi gönderilen bir form
yardımıyla toplanmıştır. Formda okul yöneticilerinden “Okul yöneticiliği … benzer, çünkü …” ifadesini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. Çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması
kullanılmıştır. Gelen cevaplar olumlu, olumsuz ve yansız olması bakımından üç gruba ayrılarak yedi temada toplanmıştır. Gelen sonuçlar incelendiğinde yöneticilerin ürettiği metaforların olumsuz
başlığı altında yoğunlaştığı gözlemlenmiştir.
