Despite the fact that breast milk is known to have countless benefits for both the baby and the mother, the rates of feeding the baby by only breast milk in the first six months are not at targeted levels in our country and in the world. Improvement of breastfeeding time during the first six months is a national and international priority. The most common reason of early release of breastfeeding or early supplementation is the insufficient milk perception of mothers. Most of the nursing mothers either start to give additional food or stop breastfeeding completely since they think that their baby is not getting enough milk. In fact, most of the mothers have enough milk for the baby and it is very rare that milk is really inadequate. Baby sucking frequently, short or long sucking, crying a lot, having small breasts, no or less milk coming by milk pump, no more milk from the breasts, breasts are not fuller and milk stroke is not felt are the reasons that mislead the breastfeeding mothers to have the perception of having insufficient milk. In this review, it is aimed to investigate the misleading symptoms that cause inadequate milk perception, how to help the mother and how reliable symptoms can be understood.
