Reflection of Narkissos Myth on Visual Arts

Abstract

Myths which
are product of human imagination have been the subject of many artists’
paintings with their universal message beyond their meaning. Some of them point
out the personal complexities and some reveal invisible and complex structures
of social relations. Narcissos is the one of myth which about social and
individual complexity of human being. Narcissos, one of the most described myth
in visual arts, come into prominence with its messages and multiple meaning
structure such as narcissism, transformation and erotism. This study aim to
examine the symbolic values of Narcissos myth and how its messages recieved by
the artists who reflected them in their works. The studies of artists whom
working on myths in art history are analysed by literature and document review. In the
analysis of the these, it is seen that artists treat Narcissus as a means of
expression in the context of self-esteem, metamorphosis, aesthetics and
gender.  In addition, the studies related
to Narcissus in art history it is understood that it is a myth which
representing transfomation truth and representation, identy and gender, ego and
the other.

Narkissos Mitinin Görsel Sanatlara Yansıması

Abstract

İnsana özgü bir düş ürünü olarak ortaya çıkan mitler,
taşıdığı anlam yanında evrensel mesajları ile birçok sanatçının resmine konu
olmuştur. Mitlerden bazıları bireysel
karmaşıklıkları bazıları da toplumsal ilişkilerin görünmez ve karmaşık
yapılarını ortaya koymaktadır. İnsanın sosyal ve bireysel karmaşıklığına
ilişkin mitlerden birisi
de Narkissos’tur. Görsel sanatlar alanında en çok betimlenen mitlerden olan
Narkissos, özseverlik, dönüşüm, erotizm gibi çok anlamlı
yapısı ve içerdiği mesajlarla öne çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma Narkissos mitinin
temsil ettiği sembolik değerler ve mesajların sanatçılar tarafından nasıl
algılandığı ve eserlerine nasıl yansıdığı araştırmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Miti
konu olarak ele alan sanatçıların eserleri, doküman incelemesi ve literatür
taraması yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Tespit edilen eserlere ilişkin yapılan
analizde, sanatçıların Narkissos’u özseverlik, başkalaşma, estetik ve cinsiyet
bağlamında bir ifade aracı olarak ele aldıkları görülmektedir. Ayrıca sanat
tarihi içinde Narkissos ile ilgili eserlerde; gerçek ve temsil, kimlik ve
cinsiyet, ben ve öteki arasındaki dönüşümü harekete geçiren efsane olarak
temsil edildiği anlaşılmaktadır.
