Giant Leiomyoadenomatoid Tumor of the Uterus: A Case Report

Abstract

Adenomatoid tumors are benign mesothelial neoplasms most commonly arising in the genital tract. When the smooth muscle component predominates over the adenomatoid component, the lesion is termed a leiomyoadenomatoid tumor (LMAT), which may mimic leiomyoma or even malignancy. Accurate diagnosis is therefore essential to avoid overtreatment. We report a case of a 52-year-old woman who underwent total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for presumed uterine leiomyoma. Histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation revealed a leiomyoadenomatoid tumor measuring 11 cm, to the best of our knowledge, among the largest reported cases in the literature. The patient remained asymptomatic with no recurrence during a two-year follow-up. This case highlights that large tumor size does not exclude LMAT, that histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation is essential, and that accurate diagnosis prevents overtreatment.
