Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Eggplant Pure Lines Obtained by Inbreeding

Abstract

In this study, morphological and molecular characterizations were done for a total of 100 eggplant inbreed lines used in breeding programs at the Batı Akdeniz Agricultural Research Institute. The observations and measurements of 32 traits determined taking into account the criteria set by TTSM and UPOV for morphological characterization were done and consequently these genotypes were divided into 17 groups. A total of 28 bands were obtained from molecular characterization by using 5 RAPD and 2 SSR primers and 26 of these bands were determined to be polymorphic and 2 bands monomorphic, and the proportion of polymorphism to monomorphism was 92.8%. Genetic relationships among inbred lines were determined by using UPGMA grouping of similarity matrix obtained from statistical analysis of morphological and molecular features.
