Kentin İncinebilirleri: Türkiye’de Üniversiteli Kadın Öğrencilerin Suç Korkuları Üzerine Bir Araştırma

Abstract

Suç korkusu, yalnızca bireysel ve psikolojik bir duygu olmayıp, aynı zamanda toplumsal bir sorun alanıdır. Artan suç oranları ile birlikte günümüzün kalabalıklaşan kentlerinde yaşayanlar arasında risk algısı ve suç korkusu yaygınlaşmaktadır. Suç korkusu, özellikle dezavantajlı toplumsal kesimleri daha fazla etkilemektedir. Bu kesim içinde yer alan üniversiteli kadın öğrenciler gerek fiziksel olarak daha incinebilir olmaları, gerekse de toplumsal cinsiyet algısı nedeniyle, kendilerini suça karşı daha ‘savunmasız’ hissetmektedirler. Çoğunlukla ailelerinden uzakta yaşayan üniversiteli kadın öğrencilerin baş etmek durumunda oldukları ekonomik güçlükler, duygusal ve fiziksel açıdan savunmasız olmaları, yaşam deneyimlerinin sınırlı olması gibi nedenlerle kimi zaman tehlikeyi algılayamamaları, onları suç mağduriyetine ve suç korkusuna açık hale getirmektedir. Bu çalışma, Türkiye kentlerinde yaşayan üniversiteli kadın öğrencilerin suç korkularına odaklanmaktadır. Çalışmada Türkiye’de öğrenim görmekte olan üniversiteli kadın öğrencilerin suç korku düzeyleri, kapsamlı bir tarama araştırmasından elde edilen bulgular ışığında analiz edilmektedir.

The Vulnerable of the City: A Survey of Research on Fear of Crime among University Female Students in Turkey

Abstract

Fear of crime is not just a personal and psychological feeling but also an area of social problem. Along with the increasing crime rate, risk perception and fear of crime is getting more and more common in today’s crowded cities. Fear of crime especially affects the disadvantaged groups of society. University female students who are one of these groups, feel more ‘vulnerable’ against crime not only because they are physically more open to physical injuries but also because of the social gender norms. Economic problems of university female students who live far from their families and also they being vulnerable emotionally, physically and them having less life experience, hinders them to understand the danger and makes the more vulnerable to fear of crime and crime victimization. This study focuses on the on the fear of crime among university female students living in Turkish cities. In the study, university female students’ fear of crime levels are analyzed in consideration of a comprehensive survey results.
