Effect of Sowing Time on The Yield and Yield Components of Bitter Vetch (Vicia Ervilia (L.) Willd.)

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effects of sowing times on seed yield and yield components of bitter vetch at the experimental field of the Department of Field Crops, Agricultural Faculty, Ankara University in 2002. Five bitter vetch lines (Line1 Line2, Line8, Line9 and Line10) were sown in 3 different sowing times (15th March, 1th April and 15th April). The exper-iment was designed a Split Plots of Randomized Blocks with 3 replication. In study, number of days to emergence, plant height, bottom pod height, number of main braches, pods number per plant, seeds number per pod, pod length, number of days to harvest, biological yield, seed yield, harvest index and thousand seed weight were determined. Different sowing times had statistically important effect on number of days to emergence, bottom pod height, pods number per plant and number of days to harvest while had statistically unsignificant on other characters. Between lines were found statistical significant for characters except pods number per plant and number of days to harvest. Average of lines the highest plant height was 41.36 cm (Line9), bottom pod height was 19.69 cm (Line9), pods number per plant was 33.40 (Line2), biological yield was 5427.1 kg.ha-1 (Line9) and seed yield was 2750.7 kg.ha-1(Line9).
