In Vitro Antifungal Effects of Extracts of Some Plants

Abstract

In this study, antifungal effects of thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.), Cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.), juniper (Juniperis com-munis L.), mint (Mentha piperita L.) oleander (Nerium oleander L.), ivy (Hedera helix L.), picling herb (Echinophora tenuifo-lia L.) , nettle (Urtica dioica L.), eucalyptus (Eucalyptus sp.) and herbal (Artemisia sp.) extracts were investigated against Alternaria mali Roberts , Fusarium oxysporum Synder & Hansen, Botrytis cinerea Pers., Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Libert) de Bary and Colletotrichum circinans (Berk.) Vogl. in vitro conditions. Extracts were used in 0.5 ml, 1 ml and 2 ml/ 100 ml medi-um dose. Thyme extract was found the most effect and completely inhibited the mycelial growth of fungi. While cumin extract inhibited mycelial growth of fungi at high doses, it showed a little antifungal effect at low dose. Extracts of pickling herb, herbal, mint, eucalyptus, juniper and oleander were inhibited colonial growth of fungi at rates 26 % -100 %. However, extracts of ivy and nettle were showed more little inhibition against fungi.
