Effect of Salinity on Seedling Growth of Dry Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) Genotypes

Abstract

Dry bean has a considerable place in Turkey and also over the world by view of production area and quantity and, one of the most salt sensitive plant species. Present research was conducted by using a total of 28 dry bean genotypes which were subjected to salt application on the seedlings in the pots. Results of the study showed that response of the genotypes to the salt stress were statistically different which were determined as six of the genotypes (2, 7, 14, 16, 21 and 27) were tolerant, nineteen of the genotypes were semitolerant and three of the genotypes (6, 18 and 28) were susceptible. Future researches should take care the present results and there is a need to determine the other dry bean genotypes which show a wide range of variation.
