The Effect of Rational Source Usage on Production Costs: A Case Study of Canola Production

Abstract

In this study, it was exanimated that effects of effective usage of sources used in canola production on production cost. This study was conducted in Tekirdağ province. The population of study includes the members of Progressive Farmers Counsultancy Association who produce canola under contract. 130 agricultural farming which produce canola under contract was selected and surveyed according to simple random sampling method. The data obtained by face to face surveying method was analyzed by using data envelopment method. The effect of effective usage of sources in cano-la production on cost was investigated with data envelopment method by considering efficiency source. In this study, economic efficiency, allocative efficiency, technical efficiency, scale efficiency, pure technical efficiency was calculated. As results, about 40% of agricultural farming was found economically non-effective and canola production costs was determined as 0.664 TL per kg and their production costs was found 20% higher than others. In addition, when other efficiency criteria considered, it was determined that the costs are high and cost benefit rate and yield are low. Canola production gross product value and net profit per decare was calculated as 344,57 TL and 144,33 TL respectively. However, mean canola yield was determined as 321,43 kg per decare and canola cost was calculated as 0,623 TL per decare.
