Soil Genesis in Calcic and Non Calcic Terra Rossa Overlying Hard Lime Stone on Medium Mountain Toros
Abstract
In this study, morphological, physico-chemical and mineralogical properties and formation processes of Terra Ros-sa profiles developed on lime stone of medium Mountain Toros from southern Konya were investigated and classified according to soil taxonomy. For this purpose calcic and non calcic two typical soil profiles were investigated. In profiles color was varied between 10 R and 5 YR, pH and KDK ranged from 6.84 to 8.06 and 23.8 to 40.3 me.100 g-1 respectively. Organic matter, lime and free Fe changed from 0.7% to 6.1%, 1.3% to 32.6 and 1.24% to 4.19% respectively. All of horizons are of clay textures. Kaolinit was found as dominant clay minerals in both profile1 and profile 2. Both profiles have illite and profile 2 has also smectite in clay fractions. It was found that quartz and calcite were dominant non layer minerals. In addition K- feldspars, plagioclase, hornblende, hematite, and olivine are other important primer minerals. Argillic horizon was found both profile 1 and profile 2. The main genesis processes of soils were weathering of lime-stone, forming of clay and crystalline iron minerals and kaolinization. Profile 1 has adequate decarbonation but occur-rence of soil carbonate leaching was not to be effective in profile 2 because of relative lower precipitation. The soils represented by profile 1 was classified as mollic Haploxeralf and profile 2 was classified as lithic Haploxeralf.
