Nutrition Statu Of The Olive Trees Grown In Kapidag Peninsula

Abstract

This research consists of determination and evaluation of physical (texture) and chemical properties (pH, salt, organic matter, lime, available P2O5 and K2O) of 571 soil samples taken from Kapidag Peninsula in 2006 year. Olive soils of Kapidag Peninsula are poor in respect of organic matter. On the other hand, pH values and lime rati-os were found as low and available P2O5 was found as high level. These soils have loamy and clay loamy texture. Economical structure of the peninsula based on olive production. Olive production for table consumption shows mono-culture agriculture structure in the peninsula. Olive production is performed in 55 % of Kapidag Peninsula Lands. Number of olive trees is 962 000 and 4 195 ha area is occupied. This area has a share in 5.3% of olive production of Balikesir province therefore it has big importance for this region. One of the most important inputs for olive growing is fertilizer use. Fertilizer consumption in Balikesir city was 115 150 ton in 2000 while Turkey consumption was 5 211 700 ton. While fertilizer consumption in Erdek was 410.35 ton in 2003, consumption increased to 5 587.55 ton in 2005.
