Progeny Selection from Tetraploid Sugar Beet Populations

Abstract

With the aim of breeding tetraploid families for the use in the production of hybrid varieties at Sugar Institute, F₁ and F₂ seeds were produced in 1996 by random mixing of the seeds obtained from four different sources. Each stage of seed production was carried out under heamp isolations through random pollinations. In 1998, those F2 progenies having well-developed and dense-seed branches, and abundant amounts of pollens were selected and their seeds were then harvested separately. In this study; root yield, sugar content (digestion), Na, K and a-amino N values were determined, extractable sugar content and sugar yield per hectar were calculated. Based on the results of the experiments, 20 progeny were selected to be used for the production of families by carrying out new progeny testings over the next getterations.

Multigerm Tetraploid Şeker Pancarı Populasyonlarından Döl Seçimi

Abstract

Şeker Enstitüsü' nde hibrid çeşit üretim programlarında kullanmak amacıyla tetraploid familyalar ıslah etmek için 1996 yılında 4 değişik kaynaktan temin edilen tohumlar karıştırılarak F₁ ve F₂ tohumları üretilmiştir. Tohum üretimlerinin her aşaması, kenevir izolasyonlu kabinlerde serbest (Random) döllenme sağlanarak yapılmıştır. 1998 yılında, F₂ döllerinden tohum dalı iyi gelişmiş, sık tohumlu, bol polenli olanlar seçilmiş ve tek tek tohumları hasat edilmiştir. Seçilen 97 döl ile üç kontrol çeşit, 1999 yılında döl testi denemesine alınmıştır. Denemede; kök verimi, şeker varlığı (Digestion), Na, K, zararlı azot (a-Amino) değerleri ölçülerek, anıtılmış şeker varlığı ve hektarda şeker verimleri hesaplanmıştır. Döl testi deneme sonuçlarına göre 20 döl, ileri generasyonlarda yeni testler yapılarak familya üretmek için seçilmiştir.
