IG I.3 61, Byzantion and the Odrysian Kingdom

Year 2019, Issue: 9, 325 - 334, 01.01.2019

Abstract

Th e Byzantines possessed a fertile territory in their hinterland, but had diffi culty in cultivating it thanks to the ferocious Th racian tribes living on their borders. Th e emergence of the Odrysian Kingdom in Th race in 470’s and its expansion in Th race resulted, at least for a certain period of time, in restraining the neigboring tribes of the Byzantines. It was precisely at this time in 426 that Byzantines took advantage of their fertile khora to its full extent, exporting grain to the other Greek poleis with the permission of the Athenians, as a decree of the Athenian Assembly IG I.3.61 shows

IG I.3 61, Byzantion ve Odrys Krallığı

Year 2019, Issue: 9, 325 - 334, 01.01.2019
