Ailenin Emeklilik Kararı Üzerindeki Etkisine Dair Nitel Bir Araştırma

Abstract

Bu çalışma, bireylerin emeklilik kararları üzerindeki aile ve yakın çevre faktörlerinin çok boyutlu etkisini nitel bir yaklaşımla irdelemektedir. İstanbul’da, Türkiye Emekliler Derneği’ne (TÜED) üye 20 emekli ile gerçekleştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler, emekliliğin bireysel bir eylemden ziyade, aile içi dinamiklerin ve etkileşimlerin şekillendirdiği kolektif bir süreç olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırma bulgularına göre, bağımlı aile üyelerinin varlığı, iş aile çatışması, eşin sağlık durumu, aile içi iletişimin kalitesi, eş desteği ve çocuk sahibi olmak gibi unsurlar, emeklilik zamanlamasını doğrudan etkilemektedir. Bu çalışma literatürdeki bazı bulguları desteklerken (örneğin, bağımlı bireylerin finansal yükü artırması) bazılarıyla ise çelişmekte olup (örneğin, gelirin emeklilik kararı üzerindeki etkisi), nihai olarak geleneksel Türk aile yapısının emeklilik sürecindeki belirleyici rolünü vurgulamaktadır. Sonuç olarak, araştırma neticesinde emekliliğin, ekonomik ve demografik değişkenlerin yanı sıra, bireyin yakın sosyal çevresiyle olan etkileşimlerinden de önemli ölçüde etkilenen karmaşık bir sosyal olgu olduğu anlaşılmıştır.

A Qualitative Study on the Impact of the Family on Retirement Decisions

Abstract

This study employs a qualitative approach to investigate the multidimensional impact of family and social network factors on individuals’ retirement decisions. Using semi-structured interviews with 20 retirees in Istanbul who are members of the Turkish Pensioners’ Association (TÜED), the research reveals that retirement is a collective process shaped by family dynamics and interactions rather than a purely individual decision. Findings indicate that factors such as the presence of dependent family members, work-family conflict, a partner’s health status, the quality of family communication, spousal support, and parenthood directly influence the timing of retirement. While supporting certain existing literature findings (e.g., the increased f inancial burden of dependents), this study also contradicts others (e.g., the negligible effect of income on retirement decisions), highlighting the crucial role of the traditional Turkish family structure in the retirement process. In conclusion, retirement is a complex phenomenon significantly influenced not only by economic and demographic variables but also by an individual’s interactions with their immediate social environment.
