On Cinema Publishing in Turkey, With Yort Kitap

Abstract

Every day brings with it the publication of new books that expand the horizons of the field of cinema and film studies. In Turkey, one of the major publishers in the field is Yort Kitap. With a lengthy catalogue of titles—including Turkish translations of Nicholas Rombes’s 10/40/70: Constraint as Liberation in the Era of Digital Film Theory; Frank Kessler, Timothy Barnard, and Laurent Le Forestier’s Montage, Découpage, Mise en scène: Essays on Film Form; André Gaudreault and Philippe Marion’s The Kinematic Turn: Film in the Digital Era and Its Ten Problems; and Girish Shambu’s The New Cinephilia; as well as a collection of Harun Farocki’s essays compiled and published in Turkish under the title İmajlarla Düşünmek (Thinking in images)—Yort Kitap has made major contributions to the study of film in Turkey. In this interview, Yort editors Bilge Demirtaş, Can Gündüz, and Osman Şişman talk about these books and about the new books they have on the way. The editors explain that the range of books in the field is not confined to technical manuals. The books they publish, they explain, grapple with contemporary issues and have given rise to a range of new and creative approaches in film studies. And in their discussion of these, the editors inform readers of some of the major new trends emerging in the field.

Yort Kitap ile Türkiye’de Sinema Yayıncılığı Üzerine

Abstract

Sinema ve film araştırmaları üzerine yayımlanan kitapların sayısı her geçen gün artmakta ve böylece sinema olgusu çeşitli boyutlarıyla açımlanmakta. Yort Kitap, yayımladığı Nicholas Rombes’in 10/40/70: Dijital Film Kuramı Çağında Kısıtlamanın Özgürleştiriciliği, Frank Kessler, Timothy Barnard, Laurent Le Fores- tier’in Mizansen/Dekupaj/Montaj, Harun Farocki’nin İmajlarla Düşünmek, André Gaudreault, Philippe Marion’un Kinematik Dönemeç: On Sorunda Filmin Dijital Çağı ve Girish Shambu’nun Yeni Sinefili adlı kitaplarıyla dikkat çeken bir yayınevi. Türkçe sinema literatürüne büyük katkı yapan Yort Kitap’ın yayın ekibinden Bilge Demirtaş, Can Gündüz ve Osman Şişman ile yapılan bu söyleşi, hem bu kitaplar hakkında açıklayıcı bilgiler içeriyor ve hem de okurlara yeni kitapların müjdesini veriyor. Söyleşi, sinema kitaplarının salt teknik ya da mekanik bir bo- yutu olmadığını, güncel düşünceyle yoğrulmuş serinin sinema kitaplarının nasıl da yeni ve yaratıcı düşünme biçimlerini kışkırttığını vurguluyor. Böylece sinema-film-ekran çalışmaları alanlarındaki yönelimler hakkında da bir fikir veriyor.
