Types of Risks Perceived in Choosing Tourist Holiday Destinations: A Case Study of Turkey

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the types of perceived risks and levels of perceiving these risks for the tourists who made their holiday in Turkey. This survey was conducted on 1997 tourists that had visited Antalya, İstanbul, Muğla and Cappadocia. The findings showed that the physical, socio-psychological and performance risk perceptions of tourists were very high. More specifically, the level of risk perception of tourists, coming from Germany, Middle and Eastern European countries was higher than the others. Moreover, level of risk perception of tourists visiting İstanbul and Muğla regions was higher than those visiting Antalya and Cappadocia regions.
