Bibliometric Analysis and Scientific Mapping of Studies on Positioning in the Tourism Literature

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine “positioning” research in tourism literature through bibliometric analysis and scientific mapping methods. We analyzed 2,517 articles published in the Web of Science database between 1981 and 2024. Collaborations and conceptual links at the level of author, country and keywords were evaluated. BibExcel and VOSviewer software were used in the analysis. The findings show that Steven Pike, Stephen Page and Rein Ahas are the authors who have contributed the most in the field of positioning. Smugovic and Tesanovic stand out with strong collaborations, while Spain, China, the US and the UK have high publication and citation performance. The keywords “tourism”, “sustainability” and “sustainable tourism” came to the fore. The study provides recommendations for future research and practice.

Turizm Alanyazınında Konumlandırma Konulu Çalışmaların Bibliyometrik Analizi ve Bilimsel Haritalaması

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, turizm literatüründeki "konumlandırma" araştırmalarını bibliyometrik analiz ve bilimsel haritalama yöntemleriyle incelemektir. 1981-2024 yılları arasında Web of Science veri tabanında yayımlanan 2517 makale analiz edilmiştir. Yazar, ülke ve anahtar kelimeler düzeyinde iş birlikleri ve kavramsal bağlantılar değerlendirilmiştir. Analizlerde BibExcel ve VOSviewer yazılımları kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, konumlandırma alanında en fazla katkı sağlayan yazarların Steven Pike, Stephen Page ve Rein Ahas olduğunu göstermektedir. Smugovic ve Tesanovic güçlü iş birlikleriyle öne çıkarken, İspanya, Çin, ABD ve Birleşik Krallık yüksek yayın ve atıf performansına sahiptir. "Tourism (turizm)", "sustainability (sürdürülebilirlik)" ve "sustainable tourism (sürdürülebilir turizm)" anahtar kelimeleri ön plana çıkmıştır. Çalışmada gelecekteki araştırmalara ve uygulamaya yönelik öneriler sunulmuştur.
