Economic Development Effects of Everyday Life: The Period of Democratic Party Case of Istanbul
Abstract
The Democratic Party’s coming of power in 1950 was one of the important turning points for Turkey. Supporting the private sector instead of statism, liberalization of imports, mechanization in agriculture and rapid urbanization has caused a great transformation in the society as well.
Transformations in economic life also transform everyday life. The transformation of everyday life also includes the transformation of society. In the era of abundance after The World War II, the consumption madness of the world was also reflected in Turkey. The new modes of consumption also brought about quantitative and qualitative changes in consumption. In the postwar period, the admiration for American lifestyle increased.
The aim of this work is to read the Democratic Party’s economic transformations in the years of power, its consequences in everyday life practices, the traces of “modern life”.
