Abstract
The Violin Sonata No. 9, Op. 47 in A major “Kreutzer”, by Ludwig van Beethoven, is a sonata for piano and violin from his Heroic period among E flat Op. 55 Eroica symphony, and piano sonata No. 21 in C major, Op. 53, known as the Waldstein. Kreutzer is a product of the period when the impact of the French Revolution and Beethoven’s respect for the Napoléon is reflected in his works. The splendor in its first part and its structure resembling that of a concerto put it among the distinguished piano and violin sonatas. The piece is composed of three parts as Adagio sostenuto – Presto, Andande con varizioni, and Presto. This study utilized 10 interpreters’ recordings of Adagio sostenuto and Presto, also known as the nightmare of violinists, and made 3 different performance analyses. Purpose of the study, by extracting similarities and differences between the performances to shed light on violinists interpretation who want to play the piece.
