Biyopolitik Şiddetin Bedensel Yeniden Yazımı: İçinde Yaşadığım Deri Filminde Bir Çeviri Nesnesi Olarak Beden

Abstract

Çeviribilim literatüründe son yıllarda ivme kazanan somatik yaklaşımlar, disiplini sadece diller arası bir aktarım faaliyeti olmaktan çıkarmış, bedenin, kimliğin ve iktidarın kesiştiği biyopolitik bir inceleme alanına dönüştürmüştür. Literatürde somatik çeviri genellikle Walter Benjamin ve Douglas Robinson'dan ilhamla çevirmenin metni duyumsaması ve öznel bir hisle aktarması olarak tanımlansa da bu çalışma, söz konusu özne odaklı yaklaşımdan radikal bir şekilde ayrılarak kavramı edilgen bir nesne üzerinden yeniden kurgulamaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, biyolojik bedenin cerrahi müdahalelerle rıza dışı totaliter manipülasyonunu tanımlamak üzere “bedensel yeniden yazım” kavramını önermektedir. Çalışmanın temel amacı, bedensel yeniden yazım sürecini çeviribilimsel ve disiplinler arası bir perspektifle sorunsallaştırarak, bedenin bizzat bir çeviri nesnesi olarak konumlandığı biyopolitik bir analiz sunmaktır. Araştırma nesnesi olarak seçilen Pedro Almodóvar'ın İçinde Yaşadığım Deri (The Skin I Live in, 2011) filmi, tıbbi dönüşüm sürecinin çeviribilim kavramları ışığında sorunsallaştırıldığı bir kavramsal metafor analizi düzleminde ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada, biyolojik ve anatomik gerçekliği rıza dışı dönüştürülen Vicente, özgünlüğü ihlal edilerek yeniden kurgulanan bir “kaynak metin”, plastik cerrah Dr. Robert Ledgard ise bu metin üzerinde mutlak tahakküm yetkisine sahip totaliter bir “çevirmen” olarak konumlandırılmıştır. Analiz sürecinde, cerrahın kurduğu hiyerarşik otorite André Lefevere’in “farklılaşmamış patronaj” kavramı; bedene uygulanan sistematik şiddet Lawrence Venuti’nin “yerlileştirme” ve “görünmezlik” stratejileri; öznenin yaşadığı ontolojik parçalanma Jacques Lacan’ın “ayna evresi” kavramı; ortaya çıkan hipergerçek dönüşüm ise Jean Baudrillard’ın “simülakr” kavramı çerçevesinde sorunsallaştırılmıştır. Bedenin maruz kaldığı bu radikal metamorfoz, çevirinin her zaman masum bir iletişim eylemi olmadığını, aksine kaynak metni ontolojik bütünlüğünden koparan ve özü ile yüzeyi arasındaki bağı parçalayarak onu bir simülakra hapseden hegemonik bir iktidar pratiği olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.

Corporeal Rewriting of Biopolitical Violence: The Body as a Translation Object in The Skin I Live In

Abstract

Somatic approaches, which have gained momentum in Translation Studies literature recent years, have moved the discipline beyond a mere interlingual transfer activity, transforming it into a biopolitical field where body, identity, and power intersect. Although somatic translation is generally defined in the literature—inspired by Walter Benjamin and Douglas Robinson—as the translator sensing the text and transferring it with a subjective feeling, this study radically departs from this subject-oriented approach and reconceptualizes the term through a passive object. In this context, the study proposes the concept of "corporeal rewriting” to define the non-consensual and totalitarian manipulation of the biological body through surgical interventions. The objective of this research is to problematize corporeal rewriting from an interdisciplinary perspective, offering a biopolitical analysis where the body is situated as a translation object. Selected as the research object, Pedro Almodóvar's film The Skin I Live In, is examined within the framework of conceptual metaphor analysis, where the medical transformation process is problematized through the lens of translation studies concepts. In the study, Vicente, whose anatomical reality is forcibly reconstructed, is positioned as a “source text” transformed through the violation of his authenticity, while plastic surgeon Dr. Ledgard is positioned as a totalitarian translator” with domination over this text. In the analysis process, the hierarchical authority of the surgeon is examined through André Lefevere’s “undifferentiated patronage”, the systematic violence against the body through Lawrence Venuti’s “domestication” and “invisibility” strategies, the ontological fragmentation of the subject through Jacques Lacan’s “mirror stage” and the resulting hyperreal transformation through Jean Baudrillard’s “simulacrum.” This radical metamorphosis reveals that translation is far from an innocent communicative act; on the contrary, it is a hegemonic power practice that severs the source text from its ontological integrity, shatters the link between essence and surface, and confines it within a simulacrum.
