Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the dimensions of sustainability in sport. For this purpose, opinions of some of the staff and managers of the General Directorate of Sports were asked along with the directors of Schools of Physical Education and Sport, academic staff of some universities, teachers of physical education and sport, coaches, presidents and staff of some federations, students of Schools of Physical Education and Sport, referees, athletes etc. that shape the public opinion in terms of sport. The study group was composed of 30 subjects selected by purposive sampling technique who were working in the field of sport. Semi-structured interview techniques were used to identify the extent of sustainability in sport. Demographic characteristics of the participants were identified. In order to determine the dimensions of sustainability in sport, face-to-face semi-structured questions were given to participants in written form and were recorded through interviews. NVivo 9.0 statistical program was used for the analysis of the qualitative data which was analyzed descriptively. The data collected in this study was carried out and was analyzed using numerical codes 1 to 30 which were assigned to each participant. Written documents were examined within the framework which were consistent with the literature on sustainability in sport and appropriate codes (categories) were created. Sustainability in the field of sports reported by 30 participants generated codes that referred to "organizational sustainability", "individual" sustainability "social sustainability", "economic sustainability", "support for participation in sports," and "environmental sustainability" as they occurred
