Journal Of Art History, existing amongst the publications of Faculty of Letters of Ege University, started to be published under the name of Archaeology and Art History Journal in 1982 by the publication board consisting of Prof. Dr. Gönül Öney, Prof. Dr. Mükerrem (Usman) Anabolu, and Prof. Dr. Rahmi Hüseyin Ünal; the journal continued to be published with the same name until the VIth printing in 1992; and has been continuing to be published under the name of the Sanat Tarihi Dergisi / Journal Of Art History after getting ISSN as of the VIIth printing in 1994. The journal, published once in a year until 2003, has started to be published twice a year as peer-reviewed journal as of 2004 (XIIIth printing).

The faculty members / academicians, who carried the Journal of Art History from its start till its current position with their valuable endeavors with such functions as editor / publication board membership, preparation to priting and technical design are Gönül Öney, Mükerrem (Usman) Anabolu, Rahmi Hüseyin Ünal, Bozkurt Ersoy, İnci Kuyulu Ersoy, Bekir Deniz, Zeynep Mercangöz, Lale Bulut, Yekta Demiralp, Şakir Çakmak, Lale Doğer, Ertan Daş, Sedat Bayrakal, Semra Daşçı, Emine Tok, Harun Ürer, Sevinç Gök, Hasan Uçar and Ender Özbay.
