Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to the Sinop University Journal of Sports Research must be prepared in accordance with the author guidelines provided below. Manuscripts must be prepared using the Word article template provided by the journal. To ensure the proper implementation of the double-blind peer review process, author information must not be included in the anonymized manuscript file; author information and declarations must be prepared separately using the Title Page template. Authors should use the templates appropriate to the language of the manuscript.

Manuscripts may be published in Turkish or English. Regardless of the language of the manuscript, both Turkish and English article titles, abstracts, and keywords must be provided. Author information and declarations must be prepared using the Turkish or English Title Page template corresponding to the language of the manuscript.

The Copyright Form must be completed and signed by the corresponding author with the knowledge and approval of all authors and uploaded to the DergiPark system during manuscript submission.

WORD TEMPLATES

Article Types

The journal publishes the following article types:

  • Research article
  • Review article
  • Systematic review and meta-analysis

Article Length

It is recommended that manuscripts not exceed 10,000 words.

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should include the following main sections:

  • Turkish title
  • Turkish abstract
  • Turkish keywords
  • English title
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Main text
  • References

The main text should be structured using appropriate section and subsection headings according to the type and content of the manuscript. Research articles are generally recommended to include the sections Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations.

Abstract and Keywords

  • The Turkish and English abstracts should each be between 150 and 200 words.
  • The aim, method, main findings, and conclusion of the study should be presented clearly and concisely in the abstracts.
  • Five keywords should be provided below each abstract.

Page Layout and Formatting

  • The page size should be A4, with margins of 1.27 cm on all sides.
  • All sections of the manuscript should be written in Times New Roman, 11-point font, with 1.15 line spacing.
  • The text should be justified.
  • The first line of each paragraph in the main text should not be indented.
  • A 6-point space should be left before and after each paragraph.
  • Reference entries should be formatted using a 1.27 cm hanging indent.

Headings

  • Turkish and English article titles should be written in uppercase.
  • Section and subsection headings should not be numbered.
  • Headings should be formatted according to the heading styles defined in the Word template.
  • MAIN SECTION HEADING: Times New Roman, 11 pt, bold, uppercase, and left-aligned.
  • First-Level Subheading: Times New Roman, 11 pt, bold, title case, and left-aligned.
  • Second-level subheading: Times New Roman, 11 pt, bold italic, sentence case, and left-aligned.

Tables and Figures

  • Tables and figures should be prepared in accordance with APA 7 guidelines.
  • Tables and figures should be placed at an appropriate location after they are first mentioned in the text.
  • Tables and figures should be numbered separately in the order in which they appear in the text.
  • Table and figure numbers and titles should be placed above the table or figure.
  • Vertical lines should not be used in tables, and horizontal lines should be used only where necessary.
  • The source should be provided for tables and figures reproduced or adapted from another source.
  • Necessary explanations should be provided as notes below the table or figure.

Authorship and End-of-Article Statements

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made meaningful scientific contributions to the study. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and accept responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the study.

The following declarations must be provided on the Title Page at the time of manuscript submission. Following acceptance, these declarations will be included in the published article. The content of each declaration should be adapted by the authors according to the nature of the study.

Ethics Statement

For studies requiring ethics committee approval, the name of the ethics committee, approval date, and decision number must be provided.

If ethics committee approval was obtained:

This study was approved by [name of the ethics committee] on [approval date] with decision no. [decision number].

If ethics committee approval was not required:

This study does not fall within the scope of research requiring ethics committee approval.

Where applicable, information regarding informed consent, parental or legal representative consent, and institutional permissions must also be provided under this statement.

If informed consent and/or institutional permission was obtained:

Informed consent was obtained from the participants, and the necessary institutional permissions were secured.

Where parental or legal representative consent was required, the relevant information must be explicitly stated.

If informed consent or institutional permission was not required:

This study did not involve any procedure requiring informed consent or institutional permission.

Author Contributions

Author contributions must be specified according to the CRediT taxonomy. The 14 available contributor roles are: Conceptualization, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Funding Acquisition, Investigation, Methodology, Project Administration, Resources, Software, Supervision, Validation, Visualization, Writing – Original Draft, and Writing – Review & Editing.

Not all roles are required for every study. Only roles reflecting the authors' actual contributions should be included.

Example for multi-author studies:

Author contributions according to the CRediT taxonomy were as follows: Conceptualization: [author name/initials]; Methodology: [author]; Investigation: [author]; Data Curation: [author]; Formal Analysis: [author]; Writing – Original Draft: [author]; Writing – Review & Editing: [author]. All authors read and approved the final version of the manuscript.

For single-author studies, the relevant CRediT roles should also be specified. Example:

Conceptualization, Methodology, Investigation, Formal Analysis, Data Curation, Writing – Original Draft, Writing – Review & Editing: [author name].

Conflict of Interest and Financial Support

Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest related to the study and provide information regarding any financial support received.

If there is no conflict of interest:

The authors declare that there is no conflict of interest.

If a conflict of interest exists:

The conflict of interest related to this study is as follows: [description].

If no financial support was received:

This study received no financial support from any institution, organization, or individual.

If financial support was received:

This study was supported by [name of the funding institution, organization, or individual] under [type/scope of support]. Grant/Project No.: [number, if applicable].

Data Availability

The availability of data used or generated in the study must be described. Authors should indicate whether the data are available upon reasonable request, deposited in an open repository, or cannot be shared due to specific restrictions.

If the data are available upon request:

The data used in this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.

If the data are available in an open repository:

The data used in this study are publicly available at [repository name and access information].

If the data cannot be shared:

The research data cannot be made publicly available due to ethical, legal, or confidentiality restrictions.

If no new data were generated:

No new dataset was generated as part of this study.

Acknowledgments and Notes

Individuals or institutions that contributed to the study but do not meet the criteria for authorship may be acknowledged in this section. Information indicating that the study was derived from a thesis or project, presented at a scientific meeting, or associated with a similar academic activity should also be provided here.

Example acknowledgment:

The authors would like to thank [name of individual or institution] for their contribution to the study.

For a study derived from a thesis:

This study was derived from the [master's/doctoral] thesis entitled ā€œ[title of thesis]ā€ prepared by [author name].

For a study presented at a scientific meeting:

Part of this study was presented as an oral/poster presentation at [name of event], held on [date] in [location].

Information indicating that the study was conducted within the scope of a project may also be provided here; however, financial support received through the project must also be reported under ā€œConflict of Interest and Financial Support.ā€

This section may be omitted if there is nothing to declare.

Artificial Intelligence Use

The use of AI-assisted tools solely for improving spelling, grammar, punctuation, or linguistic readability does not need to be disclosed.

If generative AI or AI-assisted tools were used for content generation, text generation or restructuring, data analysis, coding, image generation, or similar purposes, the name of the tool and the purpose of its use must be clearly stated.

Example:

During the preparation of this study, [name and version of the tool, if applicable] was used for [purpose of use]. Content generated or modified using AI-assisted tools was reviewed by the authors. The authors remain responsible for the scientific accuracy, originality, and content of the manuscript.

If no generative AI or other AI-assisted tool requiring disclosure was used:

No generative AI or AI-assisted tool requiring disclosure was used in the preparation of this study.

Citations and References

In-text citations and references should be prepared in accordance with APA 7 guidelines.
