Tahkik Journal of Critical Editions of Islamic Manuscripts is an international, peer-reviewed and themed journal that launched semi-annually (June-December) in Turkish. The main theme is the preparation of a manuscript for publication in the manner of a critical editions. In other words, it is the projection of a work as penned by the author based on the single or multiple extant copies and editing it for publication. The theme also involves academic essays related to research, cataloging, libraries and literature review concerning manuscripts.



The aim of the Tahkik is the criticism, reinterpretation and publication of the manuscripts integral to the scientific contribution over the history of Islamic sciences. The journal critique prioritizes the texts produced in the scientific heritage of Istanbul and Anatolia.

The main research field of the Tahkik is the Islamic sciences. It incorporates the research and publication in divinity comprising main Islamic sciences, philosophy, theology, Islamic history and arts, as well as history and philosophy. In addition to the critical editions and reviews related to the themes stated above, the articles that present transcription into Latin alphabet (Latinization), intra-language translation, translation of a text, original research articles, review and debate essays are welcome for publication in the Critique. Mainly concentrating on treatises in Islamic sciences, the critical editions of treatises in Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, and Persian will be published in the Tahkik.

• The Tahkik Journal of Critical Editions of Islamic Manuscripts is a peer reviewed quarterly academic journal publishing articles in both research part and edition part.

• In order to gain acceptance, all articles submitted to Tahkik for evaluation must have never been previously published.

• Submissions are first reviewed by the editorial board. If an article satisfies the necessary conditions of style and content, reviewers will then proceed to evaluate its suitability for publication.

• All articles undergo evaluation by two anonymous reviewers. If necessary, the article may be sent to a third reviewer for further assessment. The publication of an article depends upon the approval of these reviewers. Authors must provide the necessary corrections demanded by reviewers.

• The articles are screened for ethical control in the iThenticate and / or Turnitin Plagiarism Analysis Program.
• In general, any submitted work should provide the following formatting conditions.
- Although there is no page limit, the editorial board has the authority to decide the articles that are too long.
- Tables, figures, pictures, and graphs should fit the journal page. If needed, they may be written in a smaller font size and their text may be single spaced.
- Tables and graphs should be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. Place footnotes to tables below the table body and indicate them with superscript lowercase letters. Avoid vertical rules. Be sparing in the use of tables and ensure that the data presented in tables does not duplicate results described elsewhere in the article.

• In a separate first page the full name and institutional affiliation of all author(s) and mailing address(es), work/mobile phone number(s), and e-mail address(es) of the corresponding author(s) should be included.

• The study must include the following sections:
- A Turkish title and abstract between 150 and 200 words including 5-8 keywords.
- An English and Arabic title abstract between 150 and 200 words including 5-8 keywords.
• A long summary in English should be added for the articles in Turkish. This extended summary should be between 750-1,500 words, including the English title, sub-topics of the article, and all references. This section may be sent after the study has been accepted for publication.

• Tahkik uses the ISNAD Citation System (İSNAD Atıf Sistemi) in the Turkish section and it is based on the Principles of Critical Editions of ISAM (İSAM Tahkikli Neşir Esasları, İTNES) in Arabic section.

• Articles should be submitted using the online submission system to initiate the editing process. An automatic confirmation e-mail will be sent after submission. If you do not receive this e-mail, please contact us via e-mail with tahkikdergisi@gmail.com.
The journal does not demand any article processing or submission charges from authors.

Publication Policy

1) The main research field of the Tahkik is the Islamic sciences. It incorporates the research and publication in divinity comprising main Islamic sciences, philosophy, theology, Islamic history and arts, as well as history and philosophy. In addition to the critical editions and reviews related to the themes stated above, the articles that present transcription into Latin alphabet (Latinization), intra-language translation, translation of a text, original research articles, review and debate essays are welcome for publication in the Critique. Mainly concentrating on treatises in Islamic sciences, the critical editions of treatises in Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, and Persian will be published in the Tahkik.

2) Only manuscripts prepared in Turkish, Arabic, and English are accepted for the journal.

3) The subjects covered in the manuscripts submitted to the Journal for publication must be in accordance with the aim and scope of the Journal.

4) Only those manuscripts approved by every individual author and that were not published before in or sent to another journal, are accepted for evaluation.

5) The author(s) retains unrestricted copyrights and publishing rights.

6) Tahqiq accepts paper submissions from researchers with only doctoral degrees in research articles and book reviews.

7) The manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with Instructions for authors.

8) Manuscripts should be submitted electronically at the journal website.

9) All documents and files should be submitted as Word documents (.doc or .docx).

10) Manuscripts that do not use the ISNAD Citation Style (www.isnadsitemi.org) be turned back without review.

11) Manuscripts must include an abstract of 350-400 words and 5-8 keywords (which do not appear in the title) to facilitate electronic search.

12) All expenses of the journal are covered by the publisher. Processing and publication are free of charge with the journal. There is no article processing charges or submission fees for any submitted or accepted articles.

13) Changing the name of an author (omission, addition, or order) in papers submitted to the Journal requires written permission of all declared authors.

14) This journal checks for plagiarism. Plagiarism, duplication, fraud authorship/denied authorship, research/data fabrication, salami-slicing/salami publication, breaching of copyrights, prevailing conflict of interest are unethical behaviors. All manuscripts not in accordance with the accepted ethical standards will be removed from the publication. This also contains any possible malpractice discovered after the publication.

15) The journal adheres to national and international standards in research and publication ethics. It complies with the Press Law (a), the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works (b), and the Regulation on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics in Higher Education Institutions (c). It has also committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and pays regard to Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (d) published by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

16) This journal checks for plagiarism: Submitted manuscripts that pass preliminary control are scanned for plagiarism using TURNITIN software. If plagiarism/self-plagiarism will be found authors will be informed. Editors may resubmit the manuscript for similarity check at any peer-review or production stage if required. High similarity scores may lead to rejection of a manuscript before and even after acceptance. The percentage of similarity score taken from each article, the overall similarity score is generally expected to be less than 15%.

17) Double-Blind Peer-Review: After plagiarism check, the eligible ones are evaluated by the editors-in-chief for their originality, methodology, the importance of the subject covered, and compliance with the journal scope. The editor provides a fair double-blind peer review of the submitted articles and hands over the papers matching the formal rules to at least two national/international referees for evaluation (See. Peer-review Process).

18) Publication Decision: If the referees deem it necessary, changes are made by the author. The Editorial Board decides whether to publish the text corrected by the author.

19) It is necessary to expect on average of 22 weeks from submission to publication.

20) Permanent article identifier: Published articles are assigned DOI as permanent article identifier.

21) Articles published in this journal are digitally archived in LOCKSS. The LOCKSS system has permission to collect, preserve and present this access Archive Unit.

Publication Ethics Policy

This journal checks for plagiarism. The journal adheres to national and international standards in research and publication ethics. It complies with the Press Law (a), the Law on Intellectual and Artistic Works (b), and the Regulation on Scientific Research and Publication Ethics in Higher Education Institutions (c). Plagiarism Policy: All articles are checked by means of a program in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism.
Open Access Policy: This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Tahqiq is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0
Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (CC BY-NC-ND). For non-commercial purposes, lets others distribute and copy the article, and to include it in a collective work (such as an anthology), as long as they credit the author(s) and provided they do not alter or modify the article.

Archiving: Each issue is forwarded to libraries and international indexing institutions within one month after its publication.

Processing Charges: Tahqiq does not charge any article submission, processing charges, and printing charges from the authors.

The publication process at Tahqiq is the basis of the improvement and dissemination of information objectively and respectfully. Therefore, the procedures in this process improve the quality of the studies. Peer-reviewed studies are the ones that support and materialize the scientific method. At this point, it is of utmost importance that all parties included in the publication process (authors, readers, researchers, publisher, reviewers, and editors) comply with the standards of ethical considerations.

Tahqiq expects all parties to hold the following ethical responsibilities. List of references, financial support; No plagiarism, no fraudulent data; forbidden to publish same research in more than one journal.

Authors obliged to participate in the peer-review process; All authors have significantly contributed to the research; Statement that all data in article are real and authentic; All authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes. Judgments should be objective; Reviewers should have no conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors and/or the research funders; Reviewers should point out relevant published work which is not yet cited; Reviewed articles should be treated confidentially. Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article; Editors should have no conflict of interest with respect to articles they reject/accept; Only accept a paper when reasonably certain; When errors are found, promote publication of correction or retraction; Preserve anonymity of reviewers. No plagiarism, no fraudulent data. Plagiarism Detection
Tahqiq uses double-blind review fulfilled by at least two reviewers. In addition, all articles are checked by TURNITIN in order to confirm they are not published before and avoid plagiarism. The peer-review process is at the heart of the success of scientific publishing. As part of our commitment to the protection and enhancement of the peer review process, Tahqiq has an obligation to assist the scientific community in all aspects of publishing ethics, especially in cases of (suspected) duplicate submission or plagiarism. The review process for papers
Double-blind peer review Preliminary Examination and Plagiarism Screening:

The study is reviewed by the editor for compliance with the journal publication principles, academic writing rules, and the ISNAD Citation Style and it is scanned about plagiarism by using the TURNITIN program. Placenta similarity rate to be less than %15 condition required. This review is completed in a maximum of 15 days.

Section Editor Review:
The study which was carried out Preliminary Examination and Plagiarism Screening is examined by the related section editor in terms of problematic and academic language style. This review is completed in a maximum of 15 days.

Referee Process (Academic Evaluation):
The study, which is subjected to review by the section editor, is submitted to the evaluation of at least two referees who has a doctoral thesis, book or article. The arbitration process is carried out confidentially within the framework of double-sided blind arbitration. The referee is required to present his / her opinion about the reviewed study either on the text or to justify it with an explanation of at least 150 words on the online referee form. The author is given the right to defend his / her objections and opinions if he/she does not agree with the opinion of the referee. The field editor provides mutual communication between the author and the referee while maintaining confidentiality. If both of the referee reports are positive, the study is submitted to the Editorial Board with a proposal for the evaluation of its publication. In case one of the two judges declares a negative opinion, the study is sent to a third referee. The studies can be published at least two positive decisions. Translated articles are sent to language and related field experts to assess the appropriateness of the original, the proper use of space concepts, and language. The translation which the experts’ stated negative opinions are not published. The publication of book and symposium reviews and dissertation abstracts is decided as a result of the evaluation of the related field editors.

Correction Phase:
In the case of referees requesting proofreading in the text that they are examining, relevant reports are sent to the author and they are asked to correct them. The correction is requested to be completed within 10 days. The author presents his corrections by specifying a red color to the section editor.

Section Editor Control:
The field editor checks whether the author makes the corrections requested in the text. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 5 days.

Referee Control:
The referee who requests correction checks whether the author has made any corrections requested from him in the text. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 7 days.

Preparing Extended Summary:
After the referee evaluation, it is requested to expand the abstract part of the articles to 500-600 words.

Turkish Language Control:
The works which are passed through the referees are examined by Language Editor and if necessary the author is asked for correction. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.

English Language Control:
The works which are passed through the Turkish Language Control are examined by English Language Editor and if necessary the author is asked for correction. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.

English Language Control:
The works which are passed through the English Language Control are examined by Arabic Language Editor and if necessary the author is asked for correction. The inspection process is completed within a maximum of 15 days.

Editorial Board Review:
The works which are passed through technical, academic, and linguistic examination, final broadcast status is decided with review of Editorial Board. In case of objection from the members, the Board shall decide by majority vote.

Typesetting and Layout:
The works which decided to be published by the Editorial Board, are made ready for publication by making the typesetting and layout of the works.

Data Transmission to National and International Indexes:
The printed copies of the published issue shall be submitted to local and external reference libraries within 60 days at the latest; article metadata is transmitted to related Indexes within 15 days.

There are NO PUBLICATION FEES (article processing charges, editorial processing charges, language editing fees, colour charges, submission fees, page charges, membership fees, print subscription costs, other supplementary charges, all other charges) to publish with this journal. All expenses of the journal are covered by Publisher.
