Abstract
Bu araştırmada, Öge Gösterim Teorisi’nin (Component Display Theory) ilköğretim matematik öğretiminde öğrenci başarısına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Bunun için bu öğretim yaklaşımı, 2001-2002 eğitim ve öğretim yılında Ankara il merkezinde bulunan bir ilköğretim okulundaki 7. sınıf öğrencilerine uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada, deney grubuna Öge Gösterim Teorisi, kontrol grubuna ise geleneksel matematik öğretim yöntemi 4 hafta süreyle uygulanmıştır. Değişken kavramı başarı testi, ön test ve son test olarak kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın yukarıda bahsedilen hipotezini test etmek için bağımsız gruplar için t-testi kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca, eta-kare (etki büyüklüğü) korelasyon katsayısı da hesaplanmıştır. Son test sonuçları, deney ve kontrol grupları arasında matematiği anlama düzeyleri bakımından deney grubu lehine manidar bir farkın olduğunu göstermektedir.

Abstract
In this study, the effect of the Component Display Theory on the students’ achievement in mathematics was investigated. In order to do so, the above mentioned teaching model was applied to 7th grade students at middle school in Ankara in 2001-2002 term. In the research,the experimental group studied Component Display Theory, on the other hand the control group received traditionally designed mathematics instruction over four weeks. Open-ended performance test on variable concept was developed and used as a pre and post test. For Independent-samples, the t-test was used for testing the above mentioned hypothesis of the study. Effect sizes correlation coefficient was also calculated. Post test results showed that experimental group achieved significantly better than the control group on the level of understanding of mathematics.
