The Evaluation of Nutrition Education Program for the First Year Medical Students in Ege University

Abstract

Background: The Ege University Medical Faculty (EUMF) has attempted to improve the nutrition teaching in recent years and a Nutrition Education Programme (NEP) has been developed for the first year students. The aims of this study are to describe the NEP and to evaluate the short-term efficiency of the programme in terms of the intention of the students to change their dietary habits and participant feedback. Design: The NEP was evaluated by student success, impact and process evaluation. The impact evaluation criterion was the changes in nutrient intake and food consumption patterns among students two months after the NEP. Student success was evaluated by homework. The questionnaire as a process evaluation prepared in order to determine the opinions of the students on the program. EGE ÜNİVERSİTESİ TIP FAKÜLTESİ BİRİNCİ SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİNE VERİLEN BESLENME EĞİTİMİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Abstract

Giriş: Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi yeni program geliştirme sürecinde beslenme ile ilgili konuların koruyucu hekimlik çerçevesinde öğretilmesi için birinci sınıf programında Beslenme Eğitim Programı (BEP) geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, BEP’nın tanıtılması, öğrencilerin beslenme alışkanlıklarını değiştirme eğilimleri ve eğitimle ilgili geribildirimleri aracılığıyla eğitimin kısa dönem etkinliğinin değerlendirmesidir. Yöntem: Eğitim programı öğrenci başarısı, süreç ve etki açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Etki değerlendirmede ise öğrencilerin eğitim sırasındaki ve eğitimden iki ay sonraki beslenme alışkanlıkları, 24 saatlik beslenme içeriklerindeki değişim açısından karşılaştırılmıştır. Öğrenci başarısının değerlendirilmesinde ödevler kullanılmıştır. Süreç değerlendirmede, öğrencilerin eğitim teknikleri, içerik ve eğiticiler konusundaki görüşlerini sorgulayan anket kullanılmıştır. Ankette Likert ölçeğinde (1:çok kötü - 9:çok iyi) yanıtlanan 5 soru ve açık uçlu 2 soru yer almıştır. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %50,5’i eğitimin ardından beslenme alışkanlıklarında değişiklik yaptıklarını belirtmiştir.
