Negotiation Skills in Family Relationships: Multidimensional Effects of Psychological Factors

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of negotiation within family relationships and its psychological effects. While negotiation is often associated with the business world, it is important to recognize that it is also crucial within the family, which is one of the essential parts of daily life. Negotiation skills are highly effective in resolving conflicts among family members, establishing healthy communication, and making joint decisions. This research focuses on how negotiation processes function, particularly in relationships between spouses and parents and children, and how these processes affect individuals' psychological states. Using a qualitative research method, this study conducted a literature review addressing negotiation strategies within the family and their psychological impacts. Theoretical perspectives such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Social Exchange Theory were utilized. The research findings reveal that effective negotiation processes increase family satisfaction and strengthen individuals' psychological resilience. In light of these findings, it is anticipated that implementing programs aimed at developing negotiation skills in family therapy will have positive effects both on an individual and relational level.
