- ⁶¹Zeynep Erdal reads Hayalet in tandem with Ozansoy’s earlier play Baykuş (1916), arguing that both works dramatize the attempt to reconstruct the past “from the vantage point of the present.” For Erdal, Ozansoy’s dramaturgy oscillates between realist/naturalist techniques and symbolist or surrealist elements, and Hayalet in particular reflects the ambivalence of modern Turkish drama caught between European models and local historical experience. In this sense, the ghost becomes a figure of the past that refuses erasure, a spectral sign of cultural belatedness and persistence.
