Abstract
Automobile industry is the most important field among the other industrial branches for consumption of textile products. When it is considered that more than 30 millions of motor cars are manufactured annually in the world and that 5 - 9 sq. metres of cloth are used for each car there appears a market of a magnitude approaching 250 million sq. metres for car upholstery only.
The important points in textiles for cars are to select light weight cloths avoiding heavy types for economical reasons beside high technical performance and suitability for daily application. Polyester and polyamide fibres are generally sought for automobile industry. In this article cloths for cars are discussed regarding their marketing, technical specifications, the fibres used and the places for application.
