Ethical Principles
The Journal of Turkish Legal History is committed to the principles of integrity, transparency, impartiality, and accountability in scholarly publishing. The journal follows the ethical guidelines issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and internationally recognized standards of academic publishing.
Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data or historical documents, distortion, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, and other forms of publication misconduct are not tolerated. When such misconduct is identified, appropriate editorial procedures are followed, including rejection or, where necessary, retraction of the published article.
Research Ethics
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their work complies with accepted standards of research and publication ethics. Archival materials, manuscripts, and other historical sources must be used in accordance with scholarly methods, and all quotations, translations, and documentary editions must be accurately and fully referenced. Altering the content of historical documents or presenting them in a misleading manner constitutes a breach of research ethics.
Authors' Responsibilities
Authors declare that their submission is original, has not been published previously, and is not under review elsewhere. All individuals who have made a substantial scholarly contribution to the work should be listed as authors, while those whose contributions do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged. All sources must be cited in accordance with accepted academic standards, and any conflicts of interest must be disclosed to the Editor.
Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers
Editors evaluate submissions solely on the basis of their scholarly merit and manage the review process in accordance with the principles of impartiality and confidentiality. All manuscripts are evaluated by at least two reviewers under a double-anonymized peer-review system. Reviewers are expected to conduct their evaluations objectively, maintain confidentiality, and refrain from disclosing any information obtained during the review process to third parties.
Use of Artificial Intelligence in Manuscript Preparation
Artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted tools may be used solely for improving language and style. Academic responsibilities such as scholarly evaluation, interpretation, drawing conclusions, and generating original ideas may not be delegated to AI systems. AI tools cannot be listed as authors. If AI-assisted tools have been used, their use must be explicitly disclosed in the manuscript, while full scholarly and ethical responsibility remains with the authors.
Publication Policy
All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that comply with the journal's aims and scope, author guidelines, and ethical principles are sent for peer review. Taking reviewers' reports into account, the Editor decides whether the manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected. Additional reviewer reports may be requested when necessary. The final decision regarding publication rests with the Editor.
Open Access Policy
The Journal of Turkish Legal History is an open-access journal. All published content is freely available to read, download, and share. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits sharing, reproduction, and adaptation provided that appropriate attribution is given and the material is not used for commercial purposes.
Copyright Policy

Authors agree to publish their work under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license and acknowledge the Journal of Turkish Legal History as the original place of publication. The opinions expressed in published articles and any legal responsibility arising therefrom belong solely to the authors.

In addition, a Crossref Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is assigned to all scholarly content published from 2025 onwards, including research articles, research notes, translations, and other scholarly contributions. Editors' notes, editorials, announcements, and similar editorial content are not assigned Crossref DOIs. The retrospective assignment of DOIs to content published before 2025 may be considered on an exceptional basis at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
Publication Fees
The journal does not charge any submission, review, peer-review, publication, or access fees. No fees are requested from authors or readers at any stage of the publication process.
Archiving Policy
Authors may deposit and share their published articles on personal websites, institutional repositories, and academic sharing platforms, provided that the Journal of Turkish Legal History is acknowledged as the original place of publication and appropriate citation is provided.
