Evaluation of importance given to the functions of forests and forestry activities by forest engineers

Abstract

In Turkey forest resources were usually utilized for wood products. Besides wood production, there are other uses like employment, prevention of soil erosion, recreation, tourism, hunting and forage and grazing. The aim of the study was determination the importance levels of the forest functions and forestry activities and the time consumptions of each functions and activities. This study was executed 25 forest enterprises of Denizli, İzmir and Muğla regional forest directorates in the Aegean Region. 83 forest managers have evaluated the importance levels of forest functions and forestry activities in view of their responsibility areas. Nine point Likert scale were used for the determination of importance levels. As conclusion, three most important forest functions were timber wood and firewood production, erosion and flood prevention, and employment. Three most important forest activities were prevent and fight forest fires, silvicultural and cadastral-property.
