Implementatıon of the TOKK-M system for timber extraction activities

Abstract

In this study, it was surveyed that work efficiency of the semi-mechanized TOKK-M system (Controlled sliding of logs in chutes with mobile engine power) which provide moving of the logs in sloping terrain both top-down and bottom-up in a short time, ergonomic and environmental. Transport trials were performed in the forest approximately 45% slope Chief State Saçinka Forest Enterprise in Artvin. 37 logs and 12 logs moved on the artificial route, which was established perpendicular to the slope of the land and approximately 84 m long, from the bottom up and top-down, respectively. A single log was moved with the system every time, and medium diameter, height and transport times of logs were measured. The logs moved in transport trials from bottom to top and top to bottom 14,92 m3 and 4,42 m3, respectively. Although the amount of logs transported from the bottom up about 4 times greater than the amount of wood transported from top to bottom in this study, the operation efficiency were determined as only 2 times more. In this system, the fixing of portable motor mechanism properly in the field is very important in terms of job security. The motor mechanism must be connected at least 2 the basis points or trees with safety cables, and if needed iron rods should be nailed to the foot parts of the system to support. The logs which there are inaccessible areas in the forest are conveniently transported with this combined system. Keywords: Sloping terrain, TOKK-M system, Working efficiency, Extraction activities
