The effects of the frequency of trees on vegetation in forest gap rangelands

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effects of different tree frequencies on vegetation in Ağlasun black pine (Pinus nigra Arn. subsp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe) forests in 2012. The study area was separated into three different rangeland sites (uncovered rangeland site, sparse rangeland site and covered rangeland site). Botanical composition, canopy coverage ratio, rangeland quality degree and health, carrying capacity, similarity index were investigated in this research. A total of 54 plants species (14 grasses, 18 legumes, 22 other plant families) were found in the examined rangeland vegetation sites. Depending on different rangeland sites, botanical composition was determined as 53.91 %grasses, 21.49 %legumes and 24.60 %other plant families. The canopy coverage ratios in uncovered, sparse and covered rangeland sites were found 72.50, 48.98 and 25.25 %, respectively. For rangeland health; uncovered and sparse rangeland sites were evaluated as “Healthy-Fair” class, covered rangeland site was evaluated as “Unhealthy-Fair” class. Similarity index among range sites ranged from 51.9 %to 71.8 %. Keywords: Ağlasun, botanical composition, forest gap rangeland, rangeland quality degree and health, carrying capacity, canopy coverage.
