Mehdi Rahimi was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1978. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Institute of Science and High Technology and Environmental Sciences, Graduate University of Advanced Technology, Kerman, Iran. His research interests are in the areas of plant breeding (classical breeding, biometry, abiotic stress, molecular breeding, genomics, gene expression). He received his Ph.D. in plant breeding at Tarbiat Modares University during 2008-2013 and M.Sc. in plant breeding at University of Guilan during 2004-2007 and his B.Sc. in agronomy and plant breeding from Shiraz University.

Born in Bursa in 1972, he completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Bursa. In 1990, he was admitted to the Field Crops Department of the Faculty of Agriculture at Bursa Uludağ University. He completed his undergraduate studies in 1995 and began his master's studies in the Field Crops Department of the Institute of Science at Bursa Uludağ University. In 1996, he was appointed as a research assistant in the same department. He completed his master's degree in 1998 and began his doctoral studies in the same year at the Field Crops Department of the Institute of Science at Bursa Uludağ University. He completed his doctorate in 2004; he received the title of Associate Professor in 2010 and Professor in 2015. He currently serves as a faculty member in the Field Crops Department of the Faculty of Agriculture at Bursa Uludağ University. He is married and has three children.

Prof. Dr. Kenan TURGUT AKDENIZ UNIVERSITY

Prof. Dr. Kenan TURGUT completed his undergraduate studies in 1984 at Çukurova University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops, and his graduate studies in 1988 at Ankara University, Department of Field Crops. He completed Ph.D. in 1993 at the University of Leicester, Department of Botany, in the field of Plant Biotechnology. Following his doctorate, he was appointed Assistant Professor in 1994, Associate Professor in 1996, and Professor in 2002 at Akdeniz University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops. Prof. Dr. Kenan TURGUT's short-term scientific visits to the University of Leicester, England, were supported by the British Council (1997) and TÜBİTAK – Royal Society (1998). He participated in the “EU Workshop Course on Biotechnology Ethics and Public Perception of Biotechnology” organized at Oxford University from June 17-26, 2002, with the invitation and support of the European Federation for Biotechnology (EFB). With the support of the US Department of Agriculture and the University of Missouri, he participated as an invited speaker in the “Biotechnology Regulation Immersion” workshop organized by the University of Missouri from August 28 to September 8, 2017. Prof. Dr. Kenan TURGUT conducts research in agronomy, breeding, and biotechnology in medicinal and aromatic plants. In addition to BAP projects, he successfully completed three TÜBİTAK 1001 projects, one TÜBİTAK SANTEZ project, and one TAGEM R&D project. As a result of these projects, he has published over seventy research articles. Five commercial varieties he developed as a result of his breeding studies were registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry TTSM and published in the national variety list. He co-edited the book “Proceedings of First International Medicinal and Aromatic Plants on Culinary Herbs” in Acta Horticulturae (2009). His book, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants of Turkey,” which he co-edited, was published by Springer Publishing in 2023. He also provided scientific consultancy to Güney Agripark R&D Company between 2012 and 2024.

Prof Dr Yalcin KAYA is a professor from Trakya University, Edirne, Turkey. He has longer carrier and experience on plant breeding and genetics and developed many sunflower hybrids and lines. He has worked in Trakya Agricultural Research Institute, Turkey as National Sunflower Coordinator and as Project leader for over 20 years and institute deputy director. He had M Sc in Univ. Nebraska, Lincoln, US, and Post Doc on sunflower breeding in USDA Sunflower Lab at Fargo, ND, US. Now he is Plant Breeding Research Center director and Genetic Engineering Dept. Head in Trakya University. He is currently FAO Sunflower Research Coordinator. He is also former President of Turkish Plant Breeders Union and International Sunflower Association. He published more than 200 articles including book chapters, papers and communications.
