Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to detect the prevalence of anxiety, insomnia and depression amongst pharmacy employees during the COVID-19 outbreak. Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study was all pharmacy employees in the Erzincan city centre during the COVID-19 outbreak. In our study, a questionnaire including demographic information, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) Test, the Insomnia Severity Index and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) were applied to all participants. Results: The study recruited 126 participants, of which 45.2% were pharmacists and 54.8% were other pharmacy employees. An important part of our study group had anxiety (49.1%), depression (45.2%) and insomnia (52.4%) problems. Anxiety, depression and insomnia scores were significantly higher in those with a mental health problem, fear of being infected, increased workload, and those who saw the probability of encountering the patient. In our study group, there was no statistically significant difference in terms of anxiety, depression and insomnia compared to those who were not pharmacists. Conclusions: In our study, it was observed that pharmacy employees have developed moderate anxiety, depression and insomnia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that pharmacy employees have close scale scores to other healthcare workers reported in the literature indicates that there is an increased risk in this group, even if they do not work in the hospital. Healthcare personnel should be considered in all planned psychosocial interventions.

COVID-19 pandemisinde eczanede çalışan personelin kaygı, uykusuzluk ve depresyon prevalansı

Year 2020, , 58 - 65, 06.12.2020
https://doi.org/10.20518/tjph.770288

Abstract

Amaç: Sağlık hizmet sunumunda önemli bir yere sahip eczane çalışanlarının COVID-19 salgınında kaygı, uykusuzluk ve depresyon durumlarını tespit etmek amacıyla çalışma planlanmıştır. Yöntem: Bu çalışma COVID-19 salgını sırasında il merkezinde bulunan tüm eczane çalışanlarına uygulanan kesitsel nitelikli anket çalışmasıdır. Bu çalışmada tüm katılımcılara demografik bilgiler içeren anket formu Yaygın Anksiyete Bozukluğu-7 (YAB-7) Testi, uykusuzluk şiddet indeksi ve Hasta Sağlık Anketi – 9 (PHQ - 9) uygulandı. Bulgular: Çalışmada 126 eczane çalışanı katılmış olup bunların %45.2’si eczacılardan, %54.8’i diğer çalışanlardan oluşmuştur.
